OpenAI Shifts Focus to Business with ChatGPT Enterprise Amid Decreasing Popularity
OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise, a business-focused version of its artificial intelligence sensation, as it grapples with a decline in usership just nine months after its groundbreaking debut.
In a blog post, OpenAI revealed that ChatGPT Enterprise will provide businesses with a premium iteration of the bot, featuring security and privacy enhancements of "enterprise grade," an essential factor that had been a concern for previous versions.
Data security has become a significant consideration for OpenAI, with major corporations like Apple, Amazon, and Samsung restricting employee usage of ChatGPT due to apprehensions about potential data leaks.
"Today marks another step towards an AI assistant for work that helps with any task, is customized for your organization, and that protects your company data," OpenAI stated.
hatGPT Enterprise draws parallels with Microsoft's Bing Chat Enterprise, which utilizes the same OpenAI technology through a substantial partnership. Powered by GPT-4, OpenAI's most advanced model, ChatGPT Enterprise shares similarities with ChatGPT Plus, the individual subscription version. However, business customers will enjoy exclusive benefits, including enhanced speed.
OpenAI expressed its belief that AI can elevate and assist various aspects of the work environment, fostering creativity and productivity within teams. The company disclosed that early adopters of ChatGPT Enterprise include notable names like Carlyle, The Estée Lauder Companies, and PwC.
This release comes at a time when ChatGPT is encountering challenges in maintaining the initial excitement that propelled it to become the world's fastest-downloaded app in the weeks following its launch. This title has now been claimed by Threads, the Twitter competitor under Meta, Facebook's parent company.
According to analytics firm Similarweb, ChatGPT's traffic saw a decline of nearly 10 percent in both June and July, potentially attributed to the school summer break. The demographic breakdown indicates that approximately one-quarter of ChatGPT's users worldwide are between 18 and 24 years old.
OpenAI is also facing resistance from news publishers and platforms like Twitter (now known as X) and Reddit, which are blocking OpenAI's web crawlers from utilizing their data for AI model training.
Recent studies from the Pew Research Center unveiled doubts surrounding AI and ChatGPT in particular. Among US-based respondents familiar with ChatGPT, two-thirds expressed concerns that the government would not adequately regulate its usage. The research also indicated a rise in ChatGPT's utilization for learning and work tasks, increasing from 12 percent in March to 16 percent in July.
Additionally, Pew reported that 52 percent of Americans feel more concerned than excited about the growing prevalence of artificial intelligence. As OpenAI navigates the evolving landscape, the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise signifies its pivot towards catering to the needs of businesses while addressing the changing tides of AI adoption and perception.
