"Pakistan Calls on Interim Afghan Government to Act Against Threats, Discusses Climate Crisis at Africa Summit"

Introduction:

Pakistan's Foreign Office has reiterated its call for the interim Afghan government to take action against individuals and entities posing threats to Pakistan. In a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized the international and bilateral responsibilities of the Afghan authorities. The request is in line with commitments made in the trilateral agreement between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China. The call comes amid claims by the caretaker foreign minister that Afghanistan has detained militants involved in attacks on Pakistan, which the Afghan Taliban have denied.

Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar's Agenda:

Prime Minister Kakar is set to participate in the Africa Climate Summit, scheduled from September 4 to 6, in Nairobi. Accompanied by Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, the visit is at the invitation of Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto. The prime minister will address the global climate crisis, highlight Pakistan's efforts to rebuild in a climate-resilient manner after last year's devastating floods, and stress the need for enhanced climate cooperation to combat climate change challenges.

Bilateral Meetings and Concerns:

During his visit, Prime Minister Kakar is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Kenyan counterparts and high-level dignitaries. Regarding the reinstatement of a Kenyan police officer allegedly involved in the killing of Pakistani anchor Arshad Sharif, the spokesperson stated that all aspects of concern and interest to Pakistan would be discussed.

Kashmir Issue:

The Foreign Office reiterated that India-held Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory. Any resolution must align with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people. Pakistan maintains that India should revoke its actions of August 5, 2019, and create an atmosphere conducive to peace and dialogue in the region. In response to developments related to the Indian Supreme Court's case on the status of held Kashmir, Pakistan's position remains consistent.

Concern Over Anti-Muslim Hate Crimes in India:

The Foreign Office expressed deep concern over the rising number of anti-Muslim hate crimes in India. The recent incident involving a Muslim boy being attacked in an Indian school was cited as a manifestation of increasing Islamophobia and communal hatred promoted under official patronage. The spokesperson also condemned recent statements by Indian officials, stating that Pakistan's concerns over the plight of Muslims in India persist.
