Tensions Rise as Taiwan Reports Increase in Chinese Military Activities
Taiwan's defense ministry has called on China to cease "destructive, unilateral action" following a significant rise in Chinese military activities near the island.
Sharp Increase in Chinese Military Activities
The defense ministry disclosed that it had identified 103 Chinese military aircraft over the sea since Sunday, marking a notable surge in activity that they referred to as a "recent high."
A map illustrating Chinese activities within the past 24 hours revealed fighter jets crossing the median line of the strait, an unofficial boundary that separates the two sides. Additionally, other aircraft were observed flying south of Taiwan, passing through the Bashi Channel, which acts as a geographical division between the island and the Philippines.
Security Concerns in the Strait
The defense ministry's statement expressed deep concern about the "serious challenges" posed to security in the strait and the broader region due to China's recent activities.
