Saudi Arabia and Egypt Condemn Storming of Al Aqsa
Saudi Arabia and Egypt have strongly condemned the storming of Al Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli forces.
Israeli forces carried out an attack on Palestinian worshippers at the Bab As Silsila entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Sunday, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Saudi Arabia's Response
Riyadh emphasized that these actions constituted a blatant violation of international norms and conventions, provoking the sentiments of Muslims worldwide, according to the Arab News. Saudi Arabia reiterated its call on the international community to assume its responsibilities, end the Israeli escalation, ensure the necessary protection for civilians, and make all possible efforts to resolve the conflict.
Egypt's Response
The Egyptian foreign ministry issued a statement calling for an immediate halt to "such escalatory actions that provoke millions of Muslims around the world and contribute to igniting violence in the occupied Palestinian territories," as reported by a Turkish news agency.
The ministry reaffirmed that repeated settler raids and attempts to divide the Al Aqsa Mosque would not undermine its historical and legal status as a purely Islamic endowment.
Increased Israeli Security Measures
Israeli authorities imposed stringent security measures, resulting in the removal of worshippers from the Al Aqsa mosque premises and an increased Israeli military presence in the compound.
Access to the mosque was restricted for Palestinians below the age of 50 to accommodate ultranationalist Israeli settlers marking Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Hundreds of Israelis reportedly entered the Al Aqsa courtyard through the Morocco Gate, receiving protection from Israeli troops during their incursion, as mentioned in the report.
Protests from Muslim worshippers had arisen at the holy site following Fajr prayers, objecting to the harassment and intrusions by Israeli settlers.
